As a sociologist, I was taught that in other to impact the people with any programme that you intend to cite in their area, you have to conduct what is known as environmental impact assessment (EIA). I thought it was only sociologists that were taught this until the Abia state government came up with the education for employment ( E4E ) programme, the much I know is that neither my governor, his deputy nor Endi Ezengwa studied sociology. My curiosity was doused when I remembered that my Prof in the department of sociology, Prof Martin Ifeanacho is an Abian and is passionate about his state.
The Abia state E4E programme is a stitch in time which saves nine. It's high time we reduce our reliance on certificate as the likes of China and India have all developed through their technical knowledge and skills. We must support the government to make this programme a success by identifying with the vision and making ourselves available for the programmes.
The success of this programme will certainly be the product of our collective efforts, while its true that some local governments, legislators and political stakeholders have embraced the programme, we call on all Abians to make E4E the technical education and empowerment centre for the state.
It may interest you to know that many technical skills we met earlier in Nigeria have all started fizzling away, eg carpentry, bricklayer, welding etc. We must not allow this trend to continue, we can, yes, we can change things for good.
I will always appreciate the Abia state governor Dr Okezie Victor Ikpeazu and the coordinator education for employment ( E4E ) Abia state for inventing this vision which has affected, is affecting and is also ready to affect thousands of Abians and her residents.
While the next set of training is about to commence, we request all Abians and her residents to go to any E4E centre in the three senatorial zones of the state, Aba, Umuahia and Ohafia to register for any skill of their choice (even if it's wine tapping).
Believe me, in Abia state, while we support certificate, you can survive here without certificate.
